The short answer is yes, for sure. There are several companies working on newer robotic systems and the existing company that makes the surgical robot is continually improving its platform. Additionally, there is a lot of development in progress for trans-catheter percutaneous mitral valve repair and replacement. It appears that although there is promising technology being developed, we are still far away from a trans-catheter platform that will replace the same quality of surgery currently provided. That being said, the future is hard to predict and I could certainly be wrong. At this point, I would not recommend “waiting for the next best thing” to come around as the technique we are currently using is already very minimally invasive.
